Math Wheels for Note-taking?

Properties of Addition and Multiplication Math Wheel

This math wheel addressing properties of addition and multiplication is a great way to help students organize their information and is excellent to keep in student notebooks as a reference all year!

This math wheel is an engaging way to introduce or review the properties of addition and multiplication (commutative, associative, distributive, and identity properties).

  • Students take notes, use color to help with memory, and complete practice problems found around the wheel.
  • Students can keep this graphic organizer in their notebooks as a resource/study tool.

Sections of the properties wheel include:

1) Commutative Property

2) Associative Property

3) Distributive Property

4) Identity Property of Multiplication

5) Identity Property of Addition

This easy-to-use properties resource includes:

  • Properties math wheel
  • Teacher key/wheel with completed notes
  • Colored sample of wheel
  • PowerPoint file that has a blank wheel with background, so you can add text to make your own math wheels, if you’d like (for classroom use only – not commercial use).

Features of this easy-to-use resource:

  • Notes sections and examples (notes are just suggestions, and you can alter them or use other examples that better fit your instruction if you’d like)
  • Guided practice or individual practice: 20 problems in the pattern around the circle; students identify each property and then color the section according to the color code on the wheel. ** The color-coding gives you a quick way to determine whether they are identifying the properties correctly.

** This download is a Zip file that includes a PDF and the editable PPT (blank wheel).
