End of Year Activities for Upper Elementary and Middle School
Does it feel like the school year flew by and it’s already the end of the school year? Or did it seem slow in coming this year?
Regardless of how quickly or slowly your school year went, the end of the year is a great time for students to look back and reflect on the time they spent at this grade level.
If you’re looking for a few activities for the end of the year, I have a few ideas for you:-)
End of School Year Activity #1
Kids are so excited to receive actual letters in the mail!
AND, addressing an envelope is great practice for a life skill that isn’t used quite as often these days.
For most of the years we did this, many of my students had never addressed an envelope before, so this is another new learning experience for them.
End of School Year Activity #2
- Advice about the school (especially if it’s the first year in that school. For us, 6th graders were new to the middle school, so the letters of advice included how to navigate the new building.)
- Tips for how to manage homework, the new schedule, certain classes (and teachers), and LUNCH (we had so many more food options in the middle school:-)
- Tips for making new friends, getting involved in school activities and clubs
- What they learned this year and any other words of wisdom:-)
End of School Year Activity #3
- friends
- activities
- special lessons
- field trips and more
More details about this activity can be found in this post.
End of School Year Activity #4
- school events
- class events
- sporting events
- club events
- musical events
Student articles can be complied into a newspaper, printed and copied for each student.

Thanks for sharing these activities. I like the fourth activity wherein they create publications about the past school year. It encourages the students to look back on the ups and downs of their year.
